Step aside, pumpkin spice latte. Your cooler, older brother is here to steal your autumnal spotlight.
Starbucks is experimenting with a beer-flavored coffee called a dark barrel latte in a "handful" of stores in Ohio and Florida, a Starbucks representative confirms. The coffee tastes like a dark, stout beer — think Guinness — and has no alcohol content. "We regularly test new beverages, and testing is an essential part of bringing the Starbucks Experience to our customers," the rep says. "We're looking forward to learning more from the test, but do not have additional information to share on future availability of this product in our stores."

Wyoming loves watercress, Texas loves brisket and, perhaps most surprising, Oklahoma is obsessed with the pickle.
Those were the results of a recent analysis of food-related language on Twitter, conducted by a cross-disciplinary team at the University of Arizona. Combing through 3.5 million food-hashtagged tweets pulled from Twitter's API between October 2013 and May 2014, the team identified distinctive food words for each state. Along the way, they also uncovered regional differences in the popularity of #breakfast, #brunch, #lunch, and #dinner. The midwest, apparently, is #breakfast country.

A Game of Thrones-loving Texas man recently fought off a burglar using a spear he keeps by his bedside... A freaking SPEAR!!

Jimmy Morgan, a self-described medieval weapons hobbyist, says that he promptly stabbed Thomas McGowan when he entered unannounced in his trailer.

"As he was running, he smeared blood from here to high heaven and he splattered here and he splattered there and splattered all over there," Morgan recalls. "It was like a deer."

He then proceeded to chase Morgan off and call the police. Authorities in Wichita Falls say that McGowan was taken to the hospital for his injuries, treated and then booked in jail.

Researchers at the University of Arizona have supposedly figured out which FOOD each state is weirdly obsessed with.

They analyzed 3.5 million tweets between October of last year and May of this year, where people hashtagged different foods.

In other words, they figured out what food people in every state are TWEETING about far more than the average across the country. So... not an exact science.

Some of the results fall in line with what you'd expect: Most of the states in the south are obsessed with grits... Arizona's top obsession is tamales... Idaho is obsessed with potatoes... and Texas likes brisket.

And then, there are some completely random results: California is obsessed with caviar... Mississippi loves tangerines... Oklahoma is obsessed with pickles...

But North Dakota? We love...

Mmmkay? Here's what the rest of the U.S. looks like below...

North Dakota State University officials are asking the public for information to help locate a missing student. Thomas Greg Bearson, a first-year student from Sartell, Minn., was last seen Saturday morning, Tim Alvarez, NDSU's vice president for student affairs, said Sunday night.
"He's a first-year student and we need help and we need to get the word out," Alvarez said in a news conference.
Asked whether anything was wrong or if anything was bothering Bearson, Alvarez said, "Nothing that I'm aware of."
Bearson lives in a residence hall on campus and was seen on video, Alvarez said. He was reported missing to campus police, who are working with the Fargo Police Department to locate Bearson.
"They're following up all leads," Alvarez said.
NDSU did not have Bearson's age, height, weight, hair color or other identifying features, but released two photographs of the student.
Bearson played on the Sartell varsity basketball team, however, where the 2013-14 roster listed him at 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 160 pounds.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the NDSU Police Department at 701-231-8998 or text-a-tip at 701-526-6006.

2014 is a wonderful year indeed if it can bring fans "new" Queen and Michael Jackson music.

Okay, the song isn't exactly new. "There Must Be More To Life Than This" was recorded some time around 1982/3 and wasn't released, and then freddie Mercury wound up putting out a solo version of the song as part of 1985's Mr. Bad Guy.

But now, the duet version has now been remastered by William Orbit, and it's the first song previewed off November's Queen Forever.

The sax-heavy track made its radio debut Friday on BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans Breakfast Show. Pretend we're still living in the time of Thriller and listen below.

A radar gun is being developed by a company called ComSonics that would be able to pick up radio frequencies showing that drivers are texting. Reporting on the new invention, the Virginian-Pilot cited ComSonics as saying the radar gun isn't far from production. The technology can distinguish between texting and calling, which would be useful since some states bar texting, but not calling. CNET says the technology raises questions, though, such as will the radar gun be able to pick up the content of the texts, and will it be able to tell if it's the driver texting illegally or just a passenger in the car.

Remember that nine-minute video Guns n' Roses did for "November Rain"... where Axl Rose gets married, but the reception devolves into CHAOS just because it rains, and this somehow apparently kills his new bride?

Well, if you want to know exactly what it all means, don't ask Slash... because he doesn't know either.

Someone asked him to explain it during an online interview (see below) and he said, "To tell you the truth, I have no idea. It was a concept. The song itself is pretty self-explanatory, but the video is so complex.

First off, and we didn't know this, they say never make eye contact with a cow! Also, when walking through a field of cows, don't consider it your own personal petting zoo. And if you are attacked bby a cow, a good swift fist to the nose, should stop it cold! We suspect if you didn't make eye contact, they might be meaner, simply because they might think you are ignoring them!!

Procter & Gamble is making major changes to several of its products after a dental hygienist said she noticed something strange in her patients' mouths.

She spotted little blue specks in the gum lines of her patients a few years ago. For a while, she said she had no idea what she was dealing with.

"We thought it was a cleaning product or something people were chewing," she said.

She then started asking around, and she soon found other hygienists that were seeing it too.

It took several weeks, but she said she finally figured out what it was: polyethylene.

Polyethylene is a plastic used in several products like garbage containers, grocery bags, bulletproof vests and even knee replacements.

It's also in other several toothpaste products, including:

The Minnesota Vikings have reversed course on Adrian Peterson, putting him on the NFL's exempt/commissioner's permission list until his child-abuse case is resolved, which bars him from all team activities, the team said in a news release early Wednesday morning.

The Vikings placed Adrian Peterson on the NFL's exempt/commissioner's permission list until his child-abuse case is resolved, which bars him from all team activities.

"After giving the situation additional thought, we have decided this is the appropriate course of action for the organization and for Adrian," Vikings owners Zygi Wilf and Mark Wilf said in the statement. "We are always focused on trying to make the right decision as an organization.
"We embrace our role -- and the responsibilities that go with it -- as a leader in the community, as a business partner and as an organization that can build bridges with our fans and positively impact this great region. We appreciate and value the input we have received from our fans, our partners and the community."
Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, told The Associated Press that "This is the best possible outcome given the circumstances."
"Adrian understands the gravity of the situation, and this enables him to take care of his personal situation. We fully support Adrian, and he looks forward to watching his teammates and coaches being successful during his absence

The governor of Minnesota has joined the chorus of those calling for the Minnesota Vikings to suspend running back Adrian Peterson.

Mark Dayton, who spearheaded the legislative fight for the Vikings' new $1 billion stadium and stood next to team owner Zygi Wilf at the groundbreaking in November, released a statement on Tuesday saying he believes the Vikings should take Peterson off the field until his child abuse case is resolved in Montgomery County, Texas.

Peterson was indicted on one count of reckless or negligent injury to a child Friday, stemming from an incident earlier this year when he used a switch to discipline his son, and he will make his first appearance in court on Oct. 8. His case might not go to trial until next year, however, and the Vikings announced on Monday that Peterson will be allowed to play while his case is being decided.

That move, Dayton said Tuesday, was a mistake.

Given the way NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell handled the Ray Rice case, it's almost impossible to trust Goodell to handle the Peterson case appropriately. Which is one reason that many are calling on the Vikings to take it upon themselves to bench Peterson. Something they're refusing to do amid severe public pressure.

"Happy wife, happy life" isn't just a cliché dads tell their sons on their wedding day. Science just PROVED it.

A new study from Rutgers University in New Jersey found that the BIGGEST key to a happy marriage is how happy the WOMAN is.

If she's happy, her husband tends to be happier too. And if she's UNhappy, her husband tends to be unhappy too. It's very rare that there's a couple where the husband is satisfied and happy in the marriage and his wife isn't.

The researchers say, "When a wife is satisfied with the marriage, she tends to do a lot more for her husband, which has a positive effect on his life."

Ummm.... DUH! What a waste of money that study was...

You've seen it on TV before, but probably weren't sure what it is or what it was called but...

Promoters of parkour, the extremely athletic recreational activity where daredevil bros careen off the sides of buildings and stuff, recently met with the International Olympic Committee to discuss whether their "sport" should be included in the Olympics.

One London-based advocate who attended the meeting said it went "like a good first date,"
reports NPR.

But traceurs (that's what parkour participants call themselves) are hardly unanimous in their support of this endeavor. "If there was someone technically as apt as me, but they happen to be 6 foot 3, they're gonna get up a higher wall," says a 5'6" traceur. "And if I gauge my worth on being able to get up the highest wall, I'm never gonna feel like I'm good for anything."

Normally, there's a pretty long process to get a sport in the Games because a sport has to be recognized before it can apply.

Although sometimes the process, which can take decades, is shortened. It was for snowboarding, which came into the Olympics in 1998 under the Olympic Ski Federation instead of having to wait and establish its own fully formed infrastructure.

Here's an example of parkouring below...

Move over, T. rex – there's a new king of the dinosaurs now.

Scientists have identified the first known aquatic predatory dinosaur to date, a pre-historic behemoth with a frill on its back called Spinosaurus aegyptiacus.

Fossils indicate the Spinosaurus was the largest known predator to walk the Earth, with a body length stretching almost 3 metres longer than the largest-known Tyrannosaurus Rex specimen. Spinosaurus spent most of its life submerged in water, scientists say. It's the first known dinosaur to have lived and hunted in a semi-aquatic environment.

A team of scientists funded by the National Geographic Society announced their findings on Thursday.

Spinosaurus isn't entirely new to the scientific community, but lack of fossil evidence has made it difficult for scientists to study its lifestyle.

A version of the Spinosaurus appeared in the 2001 film "Jurassic Park III," where it was depicted as an amphibious predator capable of killing a T. rex. However, much of the film shows the Spinosaurus running on land, rather than swimming in water.

1,400 have died since.

2,500 have cancer.

IT TOOK 12 YEARS FOR THEM TO START RECEIVING PAYMENTS FOR HEALTHCARE! Some are still waiting!! Why? These people are heroes and should have received the best treatment possible- immediately. Why do we take these people for granted?

The FealGood Foundation is a non-profit that helps ease the financial burden of medical care and educates the public about the ailments these responders face- Click here to learn more and if you can please make a donation.

There's also an online petition to get Congress to designate a national holiday to honor America's first responders. We encourage you to click here and sign it.

When someone's naming their fantasy football team, the goal is usually to pick something that cracks up the other guys in your league... and that means picking something with some good SHOCK VALUE.

Unfortunately this year, the "shock value" joke that people went for had to do with Ray Rice from the Baltimore Ravens... who was arrested earlier this year after he beat his wife unconscious in Atlantic City. analyzed more than 360,000 fantasy football team names on and found that the second-most popular name this year is... Beats by Ray. So, yeah, it's blending the Dr. Dre headphones with a Ray Rice reference. Charming right?

The most popular team name is "Show Me Your TDs."

The top 30 fantasy football team names include eight actual NFL team names, including the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks.

Here are the top 5 most popular fantasy football team names in 2014...

1. Show Me Your TDs.

2. Beats by Ray.

3. Turn Down For Watt. (A reference to J.J. WATT on the Houston Texans.)

4. Prestige Worldwide. (A reference to the movie "Step Brothers".)

5. Victorious Secret.

(You can see the top 30 names, plus the most common fantasy names referencing a player on each NFL team in the link above. We especially like the reference to Dwayne Bowe on the Kansas City Chiefs: "Somewhere Over Dwayne Bowe".)

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver ANTONIO BROWN got some attention yesterday, while returning a punt against the Cleveland Browns.

Antonio was in the middle of a solid return . . . and had evaded several defenders. Browns punter SPENCER LANNING tried to get in front of him to make a tackle, but Antonio took care of him by KICKING HIM IN THE HEAD.

It wasn't an incidental kick, where his foot just happened to hit his helmet . . . Antonio did a Mortal Kombat-style flying kick right into Spencer, when he probably could've just run around him.

Antonio claims he was trying to hurdle him, and there was no intent to hurt him. Regardless, he was flagged on the play, and the Steelers were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Spencer is fine, by the way.

(Here's video. He kicks the punter 15 seconds in. And here's the kick in "extreme slow motion." Naturally, people were having fun with this online. Here's a collection of some of the memes that were going around.)

Did you get a nice tan going over the summer? Or at least decrease your pastiness from "ghost white" to "French vanilla ice cream"?

According to a new study, the best way to keep your tan glowing through the fall and winter isn't a tanning bed . . . it's eating fruits and vegetables.

Researchers in Scotland . . . where the sun never shines and no one is ever truly tan . . . found that eating carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, spinach, pumpkin, and melon helps keep the pigment in your skin a little yellower.

Now, yellow obviously isn't tan . . . but it's the key to keeping the healthy glow you get from tanning.

In the study, people who ate fruits and vegetables to keep their tan going were rated more attractive than people who went to tanning beds or sat out in the sun.

Summer may be unofficially over, but mosquitoes will likely stick around until temperatures drop considerably.

In the meantime, there's little you can do if mosquitoes find your skin particularly delicious. "Mosquitoes are attracted to our body heat and different chemical signals, such as carbon dioxide that we exhale," says Missy Henriksen, a spokesperson for the National Pest Management Association.

"They zero in on certain things we're emitting [and there's] not a whole lot we can do." It's believed that mosquitoes are particularly attracted to people with stinky feet, type O blood and/or beer drinkers.

But no need to worry about your perfume or scented deodorant--those scents are preferred by bees, not mosquitoes.

With pro football's regular season set to kick off this week (finally), Sportsnaut has dutifully ranked all 31 NFL stadiums, with Oakland's Alameda Coliseum and St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome coming in last and second-to-last, respectively. But what about the good ones?

Here are the Top 10:
  1. 1. Lambeau Field (Green Bay)
  2. 2. Soldier Field (Chicago)
  3. 3. CenturyLink Field (Seattle)
  4. 4. Levi's Stadium (San Francisco)
  5. 5. AT&T Stadium (Dallas)
  6. 6. Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City)
  7. 7. Gillette Stadium (New England)
  8. 8. University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona)
  9. 9. Heinz Field (Pittsburgh)
  10. 10. MetLife Stadium (New York)
We fully expect the Viking's new stadium to make this list in two years! Skol!

FULL STORY: The very first Denny's in Manhattan opened over the weekend. And how did they celebrate finally cracking the New York City market? By selling a breakfast approximately 6,000% more expensive than their average breakfast.

The Denny's in New York City has an item on the menu called the Grand Cru Slam. You get two standard Grand Slam breakfasts of eggs, pancakes, sausage, and bacon . . . but it also comes with a bottle of 2004 Dom Perignon Premier Cru champagne.

Denny's says that's actually a BARGAIN . . . most restaurants in New York City sell that same bottle for at least $400. Plus, you know, it doesn't come with pancakes and sausage and stuff.

They're also offering fancy cocktails that sell for around $10 each. And the inside does NOT look like a typical Denny's . . . it looks more like a real restaurant.

North Dakota State lost 12 starters and its head coach from a team that won a third consecutive FCS championship last season.

It might not make any difference.

One week into a new season, the Bison look just as efficient as ever under new coach Chris Klieman.

John Crockett ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns, including an 80-yard burst that helped turn the game around, and North Dakota State beat Iowa State 34-14 on Saturday for its 25th straight victory.

Oh, and they also rallied from a 14-0 deficit for their fifth consecutive victory against FBS competition.

Note to the entire Football Bowl Subdivision, and the Big 12 Conference in particular: Stop scheduling North Dakota State.
