Snapchat introduced a new feature yesterday (June 21st) called Snap Map, which lets you see where you friends are and vice versa, and also lets you see where the most Snaps are coming from at any given time. When you use Snap Map, you can allow all your friends to see your location, only some of them, or none of them, if you use Ghost Mode. Your friends show up on the map as their Bitmoji if they have the Snapchat app open, with their location only updated when they open it. In addition to seeing where they are, you can just tap a friend's Bitmoji on the map to start chatting with them. Snap Map also shows you where Snaps submitted to a public section called "Our Story" are coming from. If there are a lot coming from one place, there's usually an event or newsworthy happening going on there, and those moments are indicated by "heat" locations of spots of color on the map. A 10-year-old boy made quite the entrance when several tough-looking bikers escorted him to Habourside Elementary School in Nova Scotia, Canada. Xander Rose had been the target of racial slurs over his indigenous heritage, insults, and even death threats by other students. His mother, fearing for his life, reached out to a children's advocacy group called Defenders of Children, which organized the bikers to help Xander. The members of various bike clubs gathered in a grocery store parking lot early Wednesday morning (June 21st) before riding to Xander's home to pick him up. When Xander arrived at school, the bikers walked him from the parking lot to the front doors while watchers applauded. (CTV News)

A new LUCKY CHARMS milkshake just went on sale at Burger King. It's made out of vanilla ice cream, a sweet syrup, and pieces of the oats AND marshmallows from Lucky Charms. Why bother with the oats?

Are you a big movie fan? Check this out...The mighty oak tree from "The Shawshank Redemption" is gone, but you can own a piece of it forever . . . if you're willing to shell out some serious cash. A website called Natural Wood Mirrors is selling products made of wood from the actual tree. Like keychains for the low, low price of $40 . . . or bottle openers for the paltry sum of $130. (???) But hey, the openers are shaped like the rock hammer that Andy used to dig his way out of Shawshank, so there's that. Or if that's out of your price range, you can get a mini rock hammer for $65. There are also bottles of sawdust in different sizes, ranging in price from $20 to 55 bucks. Now, if you've got deep pockets, you can get a copy of the letter Andy left for Red under the tree, engraved on that sweet Shawshank wood, for $250. Or there's a little end table-type thing that'll only set you back $2,225. There are other things too, but some stuff they were offering is already SOLD OUT. It should go without saying that these products are very limited. So if you're interested, you'd better act fast.

Science has proven it-- women's intuition is real. Specifically, women are better at reading people's subtle emotional cues than men are. Researchers from around the world showed 90,000 participants photographs of people's eyes. They were then asked to say what they thought that person's mood was. The result? Women consistently outperformed men. Researcher Katrina Grasby with Australia's Berghofer Medical Research Institute says, "We don't know what makes women better at reading emotions. The more interesting questions are, 'Why do people differ in their ability to read emotions?', 'What are the processes that are occurring on a neurobiological level?' and can the answers to these questions enlighten understanding of more complex psychological disorders?" GENE SIMMONS has done some cheesy, classless things, but even his biggest supporters couldn't possibly get behind this: Gene has filed an application to trademark the heavy metal "horns" hand symbol.

Seriously. He wants the EXCLUSIVE RIGHT to extend his forefinger and pinky in the name of rock and roll.

His application says he wants it for, quote, "Entertainment, namely, live performances by a musical artist; personal appearances by a musical artist."

If this insanity were to get approved, then no other music act would be able to throw up the horns onstage, or even during, like, the grand opening of a Costco, without the threat of being sued by Gene Simmons.

Although here's the kicker: The application has a picture and a description of the gesture he's trying to trademark, and it's technically NOT the Devil horns sign . . . because the THUMB is also extended.

So what he's really trying to trademark is the American Sign Language symbol for "I love you." (???) For whatever reason, that's the way he's always done it.

Whatever the case, Gene says he's been using it since November 14th, 1974, so that gives him dibs. But if he's claiming he did it first, he's dead wrong. And there's proof.

There's a band called COVEN. They're best known for the song "One Tin Soldier" from the 1971 movie "Billy Jack", but they were a SATANIC rock band that started out in the 1960s.

There is photographic proof of Coven's very sexy lead singer JINX DAWSON doing it during a show in 1967. There are also pictures of the band flashing the horns in albums they released in 1969, 1971, and 1974.

Of course, THEY'RE doing it right . . . with no thumb. (Here's Jinx's post on the matter.)

JOHN LENNON also flashed the horns a lot earlier than Gene. He's doing it in a picture of the BEATLES from 1967, and the cartoon version of John is doing it on the cover of the "Yellow Submarine" album, which came out in 1969.

What's funny about the band photo is that John is actually doing the "I love you" symbol . . . the exact one that Gene is trying to trademark.

If Gene somehow wins this trademark, it'll be interesting to see if it also applies to the "no thumb" horns. It shouldn't, and it would be poetic justice if it didn't, because that's the way the COOL kids do it anyway.

(Frankly, the guy who REALLY made the horns a thing in rock was the mighty RONNIE JAMES DIO . . . even if he didn't do it first. May his spirit haunt Gene Simmons until his dying day.)

Bachelor In Paradise host Chris Harrison has issued a statement addressing the show being shut down after just a few days of production following allegations of misconduct by a contestant. Harrison's statement said in part, "Let me start by saying the safety and care of the cast and crew of our show is of the utmost importance to us. It is with this thought in mind that we made the decision to suspend filming. An investigation into the situation was started immediately. Warner Bros. is handling the details of that investigation. They're moving quickly to gather all the facts, and once that's done a clear concise decision can be made about where we go from here."
After urging fans to "be patient until the investigation is complete," Harrison added, "We're sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment this may have caused the cast, the crew and our loyal fans. It is my sincere hope that we can come to a quick resolution on this and get back to work very soon."
  • The studio suspended production on the show over the weekend due to an "allegation of misconduct," sending the cast home and fueling speculation that the season or even the show itself could be canceled.
  • The production crew allegedly filmed contestants DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios, both reportedly intoxicated, having sex in and next to a pool, but it was allegedly not clear whether Olympios was able to give consent.
  • Jackson has reportedly told friends and associates that he intends to fight the charges of misconduct.
  • Bachelor In Paradise's fourth season was set to premiere on August 8th on ABC.

A new study figured out a pretty simple way to trick your kids into eating more vegetables without complaining the whole time. Just jazz up the NAME a little bit . . .

Researchers at Stanford recently spent about a month changing up the signs next to vegetables in the cafeteria. And they monitored how many students ate each vegetable when they called it different things.

They tried boring labels, like "corn" and "green beans." They also tried things like "vitamin-rich corn" and "reduced-sodium corn." It didn't make a huge difference though.

But when they used labels like "rich, buttery, roasted SWEET corn," 25% more students ate it . . . and the servings they took were 23% bigger.

The recipes never changed. The "rich, buttery" corn was exactly the same as when they just called it "corn." And it worked the same way with other vegetables too.

So if you make something your kids hate like spinach, try calling it "sweet spinach" and see what happens. With young kids, you can have a little more fun with it if you want, and call it something like "Mom's Sizzlin' Sweet Spinach."

An artificial sweetener may save you calories, but it may also be deadlier, at least to bugs, than originally thought. Drexel University researchers found erythritol, the sugar found in Truvia, is actually an effective pesticide. In an experiment, fly larvae were almost entirely killed off after being fed Truvia, and adult flies produced eggs at a drastically reduced. Despite these findings, the Food and Drug Administration has deemed the substance to be safe for humans, saying that at the most, consistent consumption of the sweetener could have "minor gastrointestinal effects." Furthermore, the pent-up demand for a Wonder Woman movie and an extremely favorable audience reaction has observers predicting that the action film will have a strong run this summer.
It was a significant coup for Patty Jenkins, the director. Wonder Woman shattered the opening record for a female director, beating out the previous winner Fifty Shades of Grey, set by Sam Taylor-Johnson ($85.1M). It has been a good run for women recently, a week after Sofia Coppola's win at the Cannes Film Festival for her film The Beguiled.

But he says it was fine . . . because he was keeping an eye on it. (CTV) (Here's the photo.)

Now THIS is how you get revenge.

There's a guy in south Boston named Abu Musa, and he used to be a 7-Eleven franchise owner.

But he wound up having a falling out with the parent company over their policies. Specifically, because they FORCED him to sell hot foods like hot dogs and taquitos that no one was buying.

He says, quote, "They'd sit there on the rollers, no one would buy them, and every day I would throw out $200 to $300 worth of food that I had to pay for."

And then the company tried to force him to sell pizza and chicken wings too back in 2014, so he gave up . . . and after a legal battle, he lost his store.

So now, he's getting his sweet revenge . . . by opening his own convenience store across the street from his old location. And he named it . . . 6-Twelve. Those are his hours but, clearly, the similarity to "7-Eleven" makes it a declaration of war.

He says more than half of his customers are going to his new store, and he's got a great strategy for getting more. Quote, "I know the price of everything in that [7-Eleven]. So I sell the same things cheaper. And no hot food. Never."

One of my favorite bits on Jimmy Kimmel is his Mean Tweets bit. Since the NBA finals kicked off last night, let's check out the most recent edition. Let's go to the video!

Johnny Depp and Daisy Ridley both bring their star power to Murder on the Orient Express, based on Agatha Christie's mystery novel of the same name. Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in the film as well. Other stars, including Penelope Cruz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench and Josh Gad pop up as well. The trailer shows a murdered Depp and a handful of bewildered passengers.

Police last night (May 31st) released dashcam footage from Tiger Woods' DUI arrest in Florida early in the morning on Monday (May 29th). In it, a dazed and disoriented Woods is seen slurring his speech and unable to follow simple instructions, keep his balance, or walk a straight line. Jupiter police had spotted Woods' car parked on the side of the road with his engine running and found him sleeping behind the wheel. The more than 90-minute video begins with police approaching Woods' car and ends with him being brought to jail in handcuffs. He was released some four hours later. Breath tests showed Woods hadn't been drinking, and he said in a statement later that he'd had an "unexpected reaction to prescribed medications." Woods had back surgery last month, and will be out for the rest of the PGA Tour season.
