A New Zealand rock band called HEADLESS CHICKENS is taking heat for scattering the ashes of their dead bass player ONSTAGE at an award show in Auckland on Tuesday.
The bassist was a guy named Grant Fell, and he lost his battle with cancer in January. But the audience was NOT cool with it. Not because they thought it was gross, or the ashes blew into their faces.
A lot of people in the crowd were indigenous Polynesians also known as ‘Maori’ people, and they consider it disrespectful, because they believe a dead body is a “manifestation of the soul.”
Both the band and Grant’s widow say they meant no disrespect.
