Talk about cringe-worthy. Twenty-eight years ago, a 14-year-old in the United Kingdom got hit in the eye during a game of badminton and lost her contact lens. But it was just found embedded in a cyst in her left eye. She only discovered it after visiting an ophthalmologist for what she thought was an unrelated issue—her left eyelid had been swollen and drooping for about six months. Doctors discovered a “well-defined” cyst, and surgically removed it. After that it broke open, revealing a very fragile, hard contact lens inside. It’s a mystery why the lens only caused swelling and inflammation nearly three decades later.
